TB Base Building Week 6
It’s that time of the year. Base building.
For those who have read my stuff elsewhere (there are like two of you, both of whom aren’t on this platform) know that I like to share my recent workout logs. Or, I at least try to. I’ve done it like three times over the course of two years. Recently, I started Tactical Barbell again. That program and 5/3/1 (which are both similar workout templates) are my bread and butter. I went back to TB because it currently fits my lifestyle the best. I’m not getting into the nuts and bolts of how the program works—you can look it up if you find it interesting.
I haven’t ran since June 2023, when I left the Marine Corps. In fact, the last time I ran was because I was randomly selected for a PFT, even though I was getting out in a few weeks (CGIP… if you know, well… you know). A hard reset was needed, hence base building.
Last week was the final week of strength endurance (SE) training with some medium-length running (45 min.). Here’s how I did.
Week Breakdown
Monday SE 3x50 (goblet squat, overhead press, barbell rows, bench press, kettlebell swings) Barbell exercises - 65lbs Kettlebell exercises - 35 lbs
Tuesday Run 45 min 4.15 miles
Thursday Run 45 min 4 miles
Friday SE 2x50 (goblet squat, overhead press, barbell rows, bench press, kettlebell swings) Barbell exercises - 65lbs Kettlebell exercises - 35 lbs
Saturday Run 45 min 3.96 miles
Pretty excited to put this behind me for a year. The week before this was three 60-minute runs, which kicked my ass—more so on the mental side. This past week, I fought against the mental grind of the SE work. Three sets of 50 reps sucks and gets boring real quick.
Next week I’ll be returning to “heavy” weights. I put heavy in quotations because I’ll be starting light, but they’ll feel damn heavy. Lifting two times this week, and it’ll be that way for the next three weeks until base building is over. There’s also two high-intensity cardio sessions and one long run (which I’ll probably cap at 35 min).
